New Fastest Mile: Starting the Week Strong

Image
The day after Thanksgiving was my "intervals" day. According to Chris, I wasn't actually running "intervals," but whatever the correct term, I jogged two minutes and then sprinted for one minute. As I was sprinting near the end of my first mile, I saw that I was close to getting my first sub nine-minute mile. I ran as fast as I could. Then I went over nine minutes and I was at .9 mile. So I stopped and jogged pretty slowly, which added on a lot of time. I finished the mile at 9'35", which was still a record for me, but not what I was fighting so hard for. I tried to shrug it off and decided that I'd get it the following week. After a rest day, today marked my new week. I've just recently started running on Sundays to make for four days a week. I try to run two miles at a moderate pace so that I'm not stressing my body too much with this extra day. Sometimes it seems like it takes my watch a quarter of a mile to register my actual pace,...

Today, the weather is nasty. It's cold. It's windy. It's rainy. We're in the middle of a nor'easter, I suppose, but today was distance day. I got up early to run at 7:00 am to start the day right and have the rest of the day to do work and prepare for Thanksgiving. Last week, I ran four miles on distance day at a 11'30" pace. Each week (joints pending), I plan to try to go one mile farther, so today was five miles. I wasn't going to let the rain hold me back. Plus, I got to use my windbreaker, so that's always fun. I made it and I honestly could have kept going. My left knee hurt a little, which I am sure is to be expected, and Chris was watching the kids, so I came home. I also used a new ankle brace that Chris had picked out for me. I love it! I didn't have any rolling issues or ankle pain. This brace is much more minimalistic, so it isn't uncomfortable around my foot either. My pace was a little disappointing, though. I aimed for ...

Getting Started

This is a new blog for me so I can keep track of my progress and write out my thoughts (and not annoy everyone else in the world). About five weeks ago, I started running again. This is probably the third time that I've given it a big effort, but this is the first time that I've been able to make quick progress and have a purpose for running. Before I ran because I felt like I had to for some unknown reason. Now I run to be healthy, sure, but because as a mom, I need something to work for outside of sippy cups. So, in the first week, I struggled to run a 13-minute mile. Now I run about 10 miles a week. I have run a mile in less than ten minutes. My longest run has been four miles. Here's my general running schedule for now: Sunday: 2 miles, moderate pace (10'30") Monday: 3 miles, comfortable pace (11') Wednesday: 4 miles, slow pace (11'30") Friday: 2 miles, speed intervals After three weeks of training, my husband (Chris) and I did...
