Long Time Without Updates
If you didn't know me (or look at my Instagram), you might think from the lack of updates that I haven't been running. You might think that I teetered off and that my new healthy "habits" had died off. I'm glad to say that isn't the case. I just stopped updating because it all felt silly to write about running.
I kept running and working toward my goals. I ran all through the fall and the cold winter. I slowed down in February and then again in April due to work, a death in the family, and my kids constantly being sick. I wrote about that on my other blog too. But I have gotten into my groove and have been running a lot during May and June.
Before, I was trying to work up to a half marathon. I wanted to reach that goal so badly because it sounds so big. In the meantime, though, I started to get injured. I would run three days a week or else I would hurt more. I could not run consecutive days without a rest day. My knees hurt. My ankle hurt. My shins hurt. And every time I ran, my hip hurt.
I'm glad I took a break. I'm glad I'm not working to such a big goal so fast.
Now I have been running lower miles five days a week. I'm not trying to work in a 10-mile run. No, I'm hanging around three miles most days. Part of that is because Chris is watching the kids, and another part of that is because it is so incredibly hot (95 degrees!!), which makes it hard to run.
So, in all, I think I'm being smarter this time around. I'm running for me. Just to be healthy. Just to meet goals. If I start trying to be competitive or run to impress people, I'm sure to fail. I'm never going to be "fast" or run great distances.
